And He said, “My presence shall go with you, and I will give you rest.” Ex 33:14

Millions of people were camping in the desert. Everyone had equal opportunity to pursue the living God who was camping right next to them. There was no discrimination. The ark was in their midst, the glory cloud accompanied them, the sea opened up to let them pass and manna fell like the dew for 40 years.

Everyone saw everything, but no one chose to approach.

They chose to be afraid of the PRESENCE that dwelt among them. Therefore they never pursued His voice, His desires, His ways, His heart and His fellowship.

‘Go on Moses, I’ll send an angel with you.’

‘Nothing doing, If you are not coming, I’m not moving an inch!’

‘OK, I’ll come with you and I’ll give you rest.’

‘Glad to hear that. Don’t think I would have moved out without you.’

It almost sounds like a conversation between a man and his wife (Exodus 33). That’s how intimately they knew each other. This is the divine mystery that Paul talks about in Ephesians:

“For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh.” This is a great mystery, but I speak concerning Christ and the church. Ephesians 5:31-32

One man stepped aside to value God and His presence more than anything else. Moses refused to budge from the harsh terrain when God promised to send an angel with them. He pursued God because He already knew that God was pursuing him and His people.

Moses was mirroring the quality he saw in God.

God chooses to record this incident because it reveals unto us the ways of God. It shows us why He relentlessly pursued this man who had committed murder and had run away from his calling. God does not look at your past to write your future. He only needs an attentive eye, heart and ear. No wonder He keeps saying ‘Behold’ all the time.

God is looking for hearts that yearn for His presence. Your yearning will unlock the supernatural to flow into the lives of the people.

In fact, God loved the Israelites so much that He chose a man like Moses who had the audacity to argue with Him for the sake of His people.

Today, He is giving you the same promise. I am with you in this journey and I will give you rest. Remember this and be led by His presence.

As you keep resting in Him,  you will start mirroring what you find in God’s heart.
