Thus speaketh the LORD of hosts, saying, This people say, The time is not come, the time that the LORD‘S house should be built. Haggai 1:2 (KJV)
‘How long O Lord?’ is a question that man’s been asking since eternity. Almost all the heroes of faith have asked this question in despair. Unaware of heaven’s timing, man murmurs and complains about the eternal plans of God.
But in this verse, God is drawing man’s attention to time. Eternity asks man to consider time and value it, because God does not violate His own principles. He created time and gave it to man and therefore He is willing to honor the realm of man.
In this verse, God shows up and says, ‘It’s not me who’s late, It’s you! I’ve been waiting to get this message across to you. Have you got it yet?’ In that question, God reveals His compassionate heart to man. He shows that He has never forgotten or forsaken Israel even when they languished in the presence of the foreign invaders. He sends a prophet to show that He is the eternal King.
Similarly, there are times when we are impatient with the timing of God. To the impatient ones, God says, ‘step into my time zone where there is no delay.’ An then there are times when you are asleep and God’s getting ready at Gethsemane. To the sleepers, God says, ‘Arise, awake from your slumber. Go and finish the task that I’ve prepared for you.’
When the Spirit of the Living Lord lives inside of you, you’d know the art of living – in time and eternity.
